There are huge amount of entertainment resources available today. These resources can be read, seen or heard which are chosen depending on the personality, the feeling or even the mode of the person. Some people prefer read a novel that written on paper, while others prefer watch it as a movie. There are many differences between reading a book and watching the movie version of that book that we can summarize them in three main things: an imagination, fine details and materials.
Movies and books have different effects on people' imagination. While movies let viewers see an actual characters represented by actors and actresses, the books let readers create their own imaginary characters and let them decide how these characters speak, what they look like and what is the environment that surround them. That process improves the imagination skill of the reader and makes them more creative than just viewing a movie.
Missing fine details from the story in movie version is another main difference between movies and books. Authors are focusing in fine details when they write their novel, because there is no time limit for them or specific number of paper they are stuck on it. On the other hand, the maximum period of any theatrical release movie is two hours and half, which limit the directors to include each detail, especially when it comes from a long novel. Therefore, people who don’t like to spend a lot of time to understand the story with its whole details prefer to watch it as a movie than read it.
The third difference between movies and books is the materials. Many directors try to modify some parts of the story by adding or deleting them that might annoy people about movie version of their favorite book. In contrast, reading the novel from its original resource make the reader much confident that there is no changing in the story. In this case, authors easily convey things to their readers that are much more difficult for movie to convey.
In sum, choosing to read a book or watch a movie version of that book is a complex thing to decide due to it depends on many factors such as the personality, the time and the purpose of why you chose that choice. If people want to save their time and they don’t want to spend a long while to know about details they may choose watching the movie, while people who want to improve their imagination skills and they are interesting in details may prefer reading the book version of the same story.
